The Kozhikode Corporation Council has announced a revised list of projects that need to be completed under Operation 360, a comprehensive schedule for projects in different sectors.

The schedule, consisting of 56 projects, was approved by the Corporation Council on August 20. It has been further fine-tuned, incorporating 60 projects, some of which have already been launched.

The projects come under various sectors such as welfare, good governance, finance, legislation, health, waste disposal, education and infrastructure.

They have been categorised into three, based on the level of difficulty and the amount of time needed for completion. The projects marked Red, the most difficult to achieve, includes completion of 2,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, ensuring one lakh job days under the Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme (AUEGS), setting up a proper drainage system in the city and setting up a modern slaughterhouse.

The projects marked Orange, moderately difficult, includes ensuring employment for at least one person in a family under We-together project, including 7,500 people under AUEGS, modernisation of the Corporation office, clearing all pending files in the civic body, complete tax revision, collecting all taxes till date and sterilisation of 5,000 street dogs under ABC project, among others.

There are also a large number of projects marked Green, that can be completed with very less effort, such as pension for all eligible people, ISO certification for the Corporation, clearing all debts and declaring the civic body debt-free.

The total expense estimated for the completion of the projects is ₹740.45 crore. While many of them are cost-free, the ₹250-crore waste-to-energy plant coming up at Njeliyanparamba is the costliest of them. The ₹66-crore infrastructure development of EMS Stadium and ₹57-crore project for automation of street lights come next.

Corporation Secretary Binu Francis said many of the projects had been set in motion and that some of them could be a challenge to the Corporation, such as making the civic body free of debts and pending files.

“Cheruvannur-Nallalam zonal office is ready to declare itself free of pending files, while the Beypore office is on the way. We have already started making a list of pending files,” he said.

A detailed bylaw for each sector would be prepared soon and would be presented before the council, he added.
