All-rounder Kieron Pollard has been named the West Indies captain in limited-overs cricket on Monday, replacing James Holder as ODI captain and Carlos Brathwaite as T20I captain.

While making the announcement, the country’s board president Ricky Skerritt said the board was following ‘best possible practices for best possible outcomes’.

Pollard last played an ODI in 2016, didn’t feature in the World Cup – cooling his heels in the reserves- and then featured in the T20Is against India.

The big hitter has played 101 ODIS but has a dismal average of 25.71 runs with just three centuries and nine fifties. He has also scalped 50 wickets.

In T20Is, he has played 62 matches, scoring 903 runs at an average of 21.50 and snared 23 wickets.

West Indies finished ninth in the 10-team World Cup, winning just two matches. Against India, they failed to win a single match in a tour that included three T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches. The only match they didn’t lose was abandoned.

They are set to play Afghanistan next from Nov 5.
