The Saravanampatty police arrested three more persons in connection with the birthday celebration by a group at Sivanandapuram here wherein a cake was cut with weapons like machete and sword.
The arrested have been identified as T. Kaniyamudhan (36), Surya Maheswaran (28) from Sivanandapuram, and J. Rajarathinam (40) aka Sasi from Vilankurichi Road. The police said that Kaniyamudhan had served prison term in a criminal case. The police seized three swords from them. On August 29, the police had arrested three other members of the group namely P. Satheeshkumar (27), D. Sundar (48) and M. Aathavan (18) from Sivanandapuram in connection with the cake cutting with weapons, photos of which were circulated widely on social media.
The men were arrested for offences under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) of the IPC and 25 (1)(a) of the Arms Act based on a complaint filed by C. Sivakumar, a DMK worker.
The police said that the investigation will cover whether the six men engaged in any criminal conspiracy at the party.
