BATHINDA: A 16-year-boy was killed in a firing between two groups during a ‘jago’ (a pre-wedding ritual at night) function in Kotkapura of Faridkot on Saturday late night. A group led by one Prince of Kotkapura fired at the members of other group led by
Ankush Arora, also from Kotkapura. Lovepreet Singh, who was a guest at the party, died and Ankush was seriously injured.
Both Prince and Ankush group had old enmity. Prince and two of his accomplices fired at Ankush and his group. He is learnt to be an admirer of gangster Bhola Shooter, who is lodged in
Hoshiarpur jail. Police have registered case under murder, attempt to murder and arms act case against Prince, Ranjodh Singh of Mahla Kalan village in Moga and Gulal Singh of Buttar village in Faridkot.
The police said Bhola had threatened Ankush over phone some time ago from jail. They also think that the attack was planned in jail and Bhola was involved in the case.
The had registered a complaint by Vinod Kumar, 56, who said the marriage was scheduled for Sunday and a jago celebration was organised on Saturday night. He and his grandson Lovepreet had gone to jago party for which tables were arranged in the street. Vinod said Ankush, Kala Muchhal and Sukhjinder Singh were sitting at a table next to theirs and were having drinks.
After sometime Prince and two others, with weapons in their hands, came there and started firing at Ankush. A bullet hit Lovepreet in his chest and two bullets hit Ankush. Meanwhile, Kala and Sukhjinder also fired in self defence. Lovepreet and Ankush were taken to the Kotkapura civil hospital from where they were referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot. Lovepreet was declared brought dead by the Faridkot medical college doctors amd Ankush is seriously injured.
When contacted, Faridkot senior superintendent of police Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, said, “Two rival groups had fired at each other. The police have arrested Ranjodh and Gurlal whereas efforts are being made to arrest Prince. A case against the three accused and jailed gangster Bhola has been registered.”
