India Post has speeded up delivery of Speed Post letters and packets in select post offices in Vellore.
A despatch van carrying Speed Post articles was flagged off by a customer on the premises of Vellore Head Post Office on Monday in the presence of other customers and officials.
Calling it as additional facility, Superintendent of Post Offices, Vellore, P. Komal Kumar said Speed Post articles booked up to 12.30 p.m. of the day (pertaining to delivery of six select post offices in Vellore division) will be collected and despatched immediately to the National Sorting Hub at Katpadi.
The six post offices identified for this purpose are Vellore Head Post Office, Thorappadi Sub Post Office, Vellore Fort Sub Post Office, CMC Hospital Sub Post Office, Gandhi Nagar Sub Post Office, and Sathuvachari Sub Post Office.
The post offices were selected after scrunitising the number of letters/ packets and parcels booked under ‘Speed Post’ category, which are meant to be delivered next day.
“For instance, if someone sends wedding cards in the city, they would reach people the same day. This service is already available in many cities. We have planned to take this up in a big way now, and it would be extended to other post offices after watching the performance of this new initiative,” Mr. Komal Kumar said.
