MUMBAI: Soon,
BEST buses will ferry you 'non-stop' with not a single stop en route. The undertaking has now been granted permission by the transport authority for three such routes in the city-Andheri station to Seven Bungalows, Kandivli station to Otis and Agarkar Chowk (Andheri East station) to Seepz.
"This will mainly help office-goers reach their workplace faster. It will also ensure seamless travel when you change from trains or Metro to the buses," said a senior official.
For example, if one arrives at Ghatkopar station by train and then takes a Metro to Andheri station, he or she can expect a bus which will then directly ferry to SEEPZ. In that case, the person will not have to spend time travelling in a bus which halts at all stops en route.
The non-stop buses will benefit office-goers who have passes and are regular commuters. There will be no conductor brushing past as travellers will have either passes or will be issued tickets at the time of boarding buses.
"Conductors of such buses will be asked to dispense tickets at the stops," an official said.
Sources said that while permissions were issued for three routes in suburbs, there are plans to have such non-stop buses in other commercial areas, namely the CSMT to Nariman Point/NCPA and Churchgate to World Trade Centre.
The BEST, which recently launched its Twitter handle @myBESTBus and will come up with new
BEST Bus Tracking mobile app, 'BEST Pravas' on Monday, is seeking suggestion on more such "non stop" routes from commuters and transport experts.
The non-stop routes will mainly have AC Mini buses. 200 of which are being procured in a few weeks from a private contractor.
