BENGALURU: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah has hit out at the massive hike in traffic violation fines, saying it is a burden on motorists, who are being harassed by traffic police.

“The latest amendment to the fines for traffic violations has become a tool to harass the common man,” Siddaramaiah said in a series of tweets.
“It is definitely necessary to follow traffic rules for overall order, but hefty fines are draining the people. Governments & urban planning are partly to be blamed for few violations but that does not grant permission to anyone to violate. We as representatives have to ensure that necessary infrastructure is in place & find other ways to sensitize public. Hefty fines can indirectly catalyse ongoing auto slowdown,” Siddaramaiah further added.
