Jorhat doctor murder: First hearing to be held on September 12

JORHAT: The one-man inquiry committee constituted by the Assam government to probe the murder of the Teok Tea Estate doctor Deben Dutta will hold its first hearing on September 12.
Talking to TOI, the head of the committee Shyam Jagganathan, who is the commissioner and secretary of finance in the Assam government, said, "The first hearing of the case is scheduled for September 12. We will issue a government notification on the hearing and our preparations are on."
He added, "Initially we are planning to hold the hearings in three places such as the residence of Deben Dutta at Jogduar, Teok Circle office and Jorhat DC office. We appealed to all organizations, individuals, police personnel and civil administration officials to bring their evidences either at the hearing venues or at Room No. 218, Block- F of Janata Bhawan in Dispur to assist the inquiry committee."
Jagganathan reached Jorhat and visited Teok on Saturday. He went to the residence of Deben Dutta and recorded the statements of Dutta's wife Aparajita, son Monjil, daughter Cristina and son-in-law Param Prasad Saikia. Later he visited the Teok Tea Estate hospital to take stock of the situation there. He also talked with a few people at the hospital and completed his two-hour-long visit at around 4 pm on Saturday, after which he left for Guwahati.

The committee has been directed to submit its report to the government within 30 days.
Teok Tea Estate resident doctor Deben Dutta was killed in mob attack on August 31. Police have arrested 32 persons in connection with the incident.
