Ludhiana: The Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday claimed to have arrested a gangster, who is facing trials in nearly 12 cases, and his accomplice after 500gm heroin was found on them.
After spending 12 years behind bars in a murder case, gangster Jatinder Kumar Chintu, 32, a resident of Mohalla New Basant Nagar, Kakowal Road, had come out of jail two years ago. “After his release, Jatinder again started peddling drugs. On a tip-off, Jatinder and his accomplice Shiv Kumar, 31, were arrested from a checkpost on Kakowal Road late on Saturday night,” said Ludhiana Range STF in-charge inspector Harbans Singh.
Jatinder and Shiv, a resident of Kakowal Road’s Gagandeep Colony, were travelling in a Maruti Suzuki Zen car when they were signalled to stop at the check-post. “During checking, 500gm heroin, worth Rs 2.5 crore, was found in their possession. Jatinder is a notorious criminal and often indulged in gang wars. About 12 criminal cases are registered against him, including those of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, scuffle and possession of illegal weapons, among others,” the cop added.
Both Jatinder and Shiv are drug addicts. “As they are neighbours, they became friends. The two used to consume heroin together. Shiv is a factory worker and to meet his drug needs, he started peddling drugs with Jatinder a year ago. Shiv does not have a criminal background,” Harbans Singh said.
During interrogation, the accused told that they used to procure heroin from Amritsar, Jammu and Delhi to sell it to their customers in and around city.
