Annamalai University student throws acid on estranged girlfriend

CUDDALORE: A 19-year-old woman sustained severe burn injuries on her face and neck when her ex-boyfriend threw acid on her at Chidambaram in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Police said Suchithra, hailing from Nagappattinam district and Muthamizhan, 20, hailing from the same district had been known to each other for the past few years. The two joined a bachelor of physical education programme in Annamalai University. They are currently in the second year of the programme.
The girl decided to end the relationship with Muthamizhan recently and started avoiding him. She turned down several pleas from him for reconciliation.
On Monday morning, when the youth attempted to convince her and resume the relationship, she snubbed him and threatened that she would beat him with her footwear.
Irked over the sudden change in her attitude, he decided to take revenge on her.
