Four persons arrested by the Annamalai Nagar police recently on charges of indulging in robbery in Chidambaram and other areas were detained under the Goondas Act here on Sunday.
According to the police, the accused, A. Anandhan, 38, and Mukootu Murugan robbed ₹6,000 in cash from Parthiban while he was walking home on August 11. In another incident, the accused M. Surendar, 35, and R. Subash, 44, robbed Vinoth Kumar, an employee of Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital in Chidambaram, of gold jewellery.
Special teams arrested the four accused last week and recovered the valuables from them. Based on the recommendations of Superintendent of Police M. Sree Abhinav, Collector V. Anbuselvan ordered their detention under the Goondas Act.
