Techies celebrate Onam at old-age home

Thiruvananthapuram: A group of techies from Technopark, who regularly travel in the low floor bus of KSRTC from Neyyattinkara to Technopark, celebrated Onam in a different way.
The group, known as Volvo Techies (for all of the travel in the Volvo bus), organized Onam celebrations for the inmates of Karunya Little Flower Home, at Mannadikonam, Neyyattinkara on Saturday.
“The old age home was regularly visited by one of our members who suggested to conduct the Onam celebration there. We pooled in funds to organise the event as per the needs of the inmates,” said Archna, a member of the group.
“We contacted the old age home authorities and found out their requirements. We distributed Onakkodi and other requirements as requested by them. We also had sadya with the inmates,” said Maneesh S, another member of the group. They also made pookalam, conducted music and dance programmes, screened a film and held games for the event.
The preparation for the programme was started in August. The group has created an account to collect funds which is used for their social initiatives. And the techies themselves bought all the gifts for the people staying in the old age home.
