Union home minister Amit Shah will arrive in Assam to attend a meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) on September 8. The meeting will review Assam’s situation with regard to the recently published National Register of Citizens (NRC). Shah will chair the review meeting along with chief ministers and governors of eight Northeastern states. According to the NRC published on August 31, out of total 3.3 crore applicants, 3.11 crore have made it into the list while 19 lakh people have been excluded.
