Allahabad: Residents of Rajapur locality of Allahabad are boycotting the annual Dadhikando fair to protest district administration’s demolition notice to houses which have allegedly encroached on the roads.
Dadhikando fair is celebrated in various localities in a gap of few days. After Sulem Sarai on September 1, Teliarganj and Salori organised the fair. It was the turn of Rajapur on Sunday but the residents decided not to organize the fair. The protest, under the banner of Janhit Sangharsh Samiti, continued even as the organiser, Shri Krishna Dhadhikando Committee, decorated some parts of the area.
Pramil Kerservani, a local trader, said: “We have been residing here for generations. Maps of our houses were sanctioned years before Prayagraj Development Authority came into existence. Today, they have put a red cross in front of our houses.”
Another resident SK Gupta said, “Residents are not against development work but the administration should at least give compensation to those whose houses are being demolished for road widening.”
