400-page chargesheet filed in Khatodara custodial murder case

SURAT: City police filed a 400-page chargesheet in the case of death of a theft suspect in custody at Khatodara police station here on Saturday. Meanwhile, six accused in the murder case, who are yet to be arrested, were declared absconders by police, including M B Khileri, then police inspector of Khatodara police station. Four accused cops, including police sub-inspector Chirag Chaudhary, were arrested during the course of investigation.
Police submitted the chargesheet in the court as the 90 day-limit for it after the arrest of the accused was nearing. “As per rules, we are supposed to file the chargesheet within 90 days of arrest of the accused. Our investigation in the case and also search to nab other accused on the run are continuing,” said Chintan Teraiya, deputy commissioner of police, who is investigating the case.
The chargesheet includes statements of 105 witnesses and the accused who have been booked under Indian Penal Code for murder, causing hurt to extort confession, wrongful confinement, causing hurt using weapons, wrongful confinement to extort confession, intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.

Chirag Chaudyar, police sub-inspector; Kalpesh Garambha, Haresh Chaudhary and Kuldeepsingh Solanki, all constables, have so far been arrested. M B Khileri, police inspector, and Ashish Dihora, Paresh Bhukan, Dilubhai Sangani and Kanaksinh Deol, all constables, are yet to get arrested along with Sonu Singh alias Sonu Rickshawalo, an autorickshaw driver, who helped them in the crime.
The accused were booked on May 31 for allegedly thrashing Omprakash Pandey, 23, who was detained on suspicion of theft at Khatodara police station. The victim died in a private hospital next day. Police added section of murder in the FIR after Pandey died.
