Senior IFS officer commits suicide in Bengaluru's Yelahanka

BENGALURU: A senior IFS officer from Karnataka has committed suicide at his residence in north Bengaluru on Sunday morning.
Awtar Singh (52), additional principal chief conservator of forests and joint managing director, Karnataka Forest Development Corporation posted at Aranya Bhavan, hanged himself from the ceiling of his flat located in Prestige Monte Carlo apartment on Doddaballapur Road, Yelahanka.
Yelahanka New Town police, who have registered a case, were yet to ascertain the exact reason for 1990 batch officer's extreme step. According to sources, family or health issues could be the reason.

Bheemashankar S Guled, deputy commissioner of police (northeast), told TOI that the officer was found dead around 10.30am. “He was suffering from severe back pain because of which he might have taken the etreme step. A case has been registered at Yelahanka New Town police station and investigation is under progress,” he added.
A senior official with the forest department said Awtar Singh originally from Haryana's Yamuna Nagar held a master of science degree. “He had returned to work after a long break only on Saturday. We are all in a state of shock," he added.
