ALLAHABAD: In the second phase of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), the footage from a network of over 1,000 CCTV cameras would be routed through different operating centres for better management of traffic in the city. After installing the network of CCTV cameras and sensors, the district administration is ready to start the second phase of the project.
Launched as part of the Smart City project, the ICCC would minimise human involvement in traffic control.
Mission manager of Smart City project, SK Sinha, said, “The feed from the CCTVs and the sensors attached to them would be used by different operating centres like the disaster recovery centre (DRC), viewing centres, command and control centers (CCCs), transit management system for city buses, environmental sensors and smart parking system.”
The system would be handled by two state-of-the-art CCCs, one at the Kumbh Mela venue and another at Reserve Police Lines. “Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), an intelligent traffic management system has been installed at 19 major crossings of the city, which will facilitate alignment of the traffic flow on a real time basis. The traffic lights would function as per the flow of traffic, specifically in one particular direction,” Sinha added. The integrated surveillance system would enable the police to deter, detect and deal with criminal activities to ensure citizens’ safety.
For the solid waste management, the garbage collection process would be monitored through a GPS tracking system.

The number plate recognition system (ANPR) installled at several city crossings would help authorities nab traffic rule violators. “The CCTV cameras would capture an image of the licence plate of the errant vehicle and the control centre would automatically generate an e-challan. The challan would be added in the RTO database,” Sinha said.
The phase1 of the system has already shown its utility during the Kumbh 2019 wherein the integrated video surveillance system helped the authorities channelise the huge turnout of devotees through different roads and ‘resting sheds’.
