Mongia quits as junior cricket teams’ consultant

Nayan Mongia
Vadodara: Upset with the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) management, former India wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia has resigned as the consultant for under-16 and under-19 cricket teams.
Mongia sent his resignation few days ago but the association is yet to decide if it will accept the resignation.
Mongia was hired as the consultant by the association in March this year with the aim of improving the quality of junior cricket and prepare youngsters for the senior teams. Mongia was earlier under consideration for the senior teams but his son Mohit plays for the senior team so he was made consultant for the junior cricketers to avoid any conflict of interest.
Sources in the association said that Mongia had been upset with the association over last couple of months. He was promised that he would have a say in picking up coaches and trainers but the association reportedly took all the decisions without his consultations. Many assistant coaches and trainers were aslo changed abruptly.
Mongia wasn’t happy with the selection of players as he wasn’t given the cricketers he wanted.
When contacted, BCA secretary (in-charge), Amar Petiwale said, “Mongia has sent his resignation citing personal reasons. His letter mentions the suggestions he had given regarding cricketing issues. But he hasn’t mentioned any specific reason for his exit.”

Petiwale added that the managing committee will take up the issue in its next meeting.
Mongia’s son Mohit hasn’t been picked in the probables for the upcoming Ranji season. Mongia was in the past chairman of senior selection committee in the BCA. He is known to be vocal about his demands for improving the cricket.
