CHENNAI: A day after chief justice of the
Madras high court Justice
V K Tahilramani tendered her resignation protesting against her transfer to the
Meghalaya high court, advocates practising in the Madras high court have decided to boycott court proceedings on September 10, condemning the transfer.
“We, t he leaders of all the advocates’ association in Chennai have unanimously decided to boycott court proceedings on Tuesday against the transfer of our Chief Justice. Though the decision was not made formally through association meetings, we spoke to respective leaders of all the associations and everyone have accepted for the boycott call,” G Mohana Krishnan said to TOI.The boycott call comes almost a week after the news about Justice Tahilramani being transferred broke.
Though the Supreme Court collegium took the decision to transfer her to the Meghalaya high court on August 28, the resolution was made public only on September 3.On September 2, the collegium passed a separate resolution rejecting Justice Tahilramani’s request to reconsider the transfer.
The forum also recommended transfer of the present Meghalaya chief justice AK Mittal to the Madras high court.
