PATNA: A
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) worker, Rohit alias Antu Isser, and his cousin have been booked for the murderous attack on Badri Goenka, a railway scrap dealer, and his two family members in
Samastipur town on Thursday.
Both Antu and his cousin Harshu Isser, residents of Bahadur in Samastipur town, are absconding. Antu’s name had earlier figured in the killing of an RJD functionary and automobile dealer Kundan Yadav. Kundan was killed with an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle at Samastipur in 2010.
Goenka, who is still battling for his life at a private hospital in Samastipur, revealed the names of Antu and Harshu to the police, accusing them of attacking him, his wife Sonam and their 13-year-old Aditi alias Kukku.
Antu had played an important role in the victory of LJP candidate from Samastipur late Ramchandra Paswan, who died due to cardiac arrest in New Delhi recently. Antu was also present at the funeral of the late LJP MP and also visited the latter’s ancestral house in
Khagaria district with ‘ashthi kalash’.
Samastipur LJP town president Umashankar Mishra admitted that Antu was an active worker of the party. He, however, said Antu was not holding any post in the party. “He is our active worker but not an office-bearer. Disciplinary action will be taken against him as he has been booked in an attempt to murder case,” Mishra said.
Antu’s political clout could be gauged from the fact that former LJP MP Surajbhan Singh had camped at his residence in Samastipur during the electioneering in favour of former Samastipur MP late Ramchandra Paswan. Sources said Antu was earlier a business partner of Badri.
“Badri started maintaining distance with Antu after his name figured in the killing of his (Badri’s) cousin Raj Goenka in 2013,” a police officer associated with the investigation said.
Bardi told the police that Antu fired at him from a close range on Thursday night when he refused to oblige him with huge money. “Antu said he wanted to contest next state assembly election from Samastipur and for that purpose he needed a lot of money,” Bardi told the police.
Antu has been nurturing political aspirations for long. After having failed to get any assurance from a senior leader of the JD(U) from Samastipur for ticket, he switched over to the LJP and won confidence of many senior leaders. The JD(U) leader from Samastipur has visited Antu’s residence time and again, sources said.
Though Badri was caught with a revolver in New Delhi soon after the encounter of notorious Chunnu Thakur, he was let off due to political pressure.
Sources said Antu was also arrested with an AK-47 assault rifle in
Muzaffarpur.
Samastipur sadar DSP Pritish Kumar, who is heading the SIT, said, “We are on the job. Raids are on to arrest the culprits.”
