Woman seeks permission for euthanasia with two kids

The family does not have an Ayushman health card, though they had applied for it in 2018
VARANASI: Unable to meet the expenses of her critically ill husband, a 35-year-old woman on Saturday reached the Kutchery premises in Varanasi with her two sons with placards demanding permission for euthanasia from the Prime Minister and chief minister.
The woman, Suman Mishra, told officials that she wanted to end life with her two sons, Prince (8) and Anand (6), as she had spent everything on the treatment of her husband Sanjay Mishra (40), who is suffering from kidney ailment for the past one year, and is now even unable to arrange food.

Suman said she has exhausted all resources in the costly treatment of her husband. The family does not have an Ayushman health card, though they had applied for it in 2018. Suman was carrying a placard that read, “Modi ji, Yogi ji Banaras ki beti ka suhasg nahi bacha sakte to mere masoom bachchon ke sath ichchha mrityu ki izazat de do (Modi ji, Yogi ji, if you can’t save life of the husband of a Banaras daughter, give permission for euthanasia to me and my children).”
“I have mortgaged my house and sold all ornaments. We have nothing to eat,” she said, adding her husband worked in a private firm in Mumbai but lost his job. “Now, it is impossible for me to arrange Rs 40,000 per month for his dialysis and medicines. I have not got the Ayushman health card yet though I had applied for it in 2018,” she added. DM Surendra Singh said he was looking into the matter. “The woman had been given financial support of Rs 1.90 lakh from the CM’s Relief Fund in May 25,” the DM said after checking records, and added that he is trying to contact her again.
