MUMBAI: In a relief to a man accused of raping and blackmailing a married woman, a sessions Judge granted him bail of Rs 20,000 on September 5. The accused sought bail in a case registered against him by Shivaji Park Police station.
The Judge after perusing the opposition to the bail by the Investigating officer and documents of the probe observed that the “record prima facie reveals that the accused has allegedly committed rape thrice on the victim lady, who is married and also snapped her photographs in objectionable position, black-mailing her’’by professing his love. The accused in July allegedly showed “her obscene photos to her husband’’. Late in July she allegedly tried to commit suicide by cutting the vein of her hand and was admitted to a hospital.

The FIR was filed last month, August 11, and he was arrested a day later. Prosecution opposed his bail plea strongly saying he may contact her to pressurize her and tamper with evidence, if released.
The court said “both victim and accused are major’’ with him having a permanent address in Mumbai and a job and “least possibility of absconding’’ and hence granted him bail of Rs 20,000 with one or two sureties. He also has to remain present at the police station every Sunday for two hours till investigation is on and cannot leave India without prior court permission. The court directed him not to tamper with witnesses or contact the victim and furnish the court and police with his mobile number.
