MANGALURU: #TuluOfficialInKA_KL- a day long twitter campaign launched by Jai Tulunad - an organisation fighting for providing Tulu language its due recognition received support from Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs from undivided Dakshina Kannada district and sandalwood celebrities.
The purpose of #TuluOfficialInKA_KL campaign held on Sunday, is to urge the state and neighbouring Kerala governments to recognise Tulu as an official language, and then include the language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution. With BJP government in the state and Centre, Jai Tulunad is hoping that their demand will be met.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel expressed confidence that Tulu will soon be included in the eighth schedule of the Constitution. Ashwath Tuluve, member, Jai Tulunad, said that MLAs Vedayvas Kamath and Raghupathi Bhat have invited them to their offices and requested them to present their demand in writing. Most of the MLA’s have extended their support. They have assured to take up the issue in the legislative assembly. Through them, we hope to meet minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary, he said.
Artist Vilas Nayak tweeted: “Tulu language is close to our heart. I am proud to hail from coastal region of Karnataka that has such rich culture and unique tradition. We must recognise and give special status for Tulu.”

Twitter users recollected chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s assurance during his visit to Dharmasthala to participate in the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan held in Ujire in 2009. He then said that the government was committed to recognise Tulu as a state language.

Till about 2pm, more than 50,000 tweets were sent out, said Ashwath. As part of this campaign, tweets were tagged to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and chief ministers of Karnataka and Kerala, and other prominent leaders.
In 2017, the organisation had launched a similar campaign. On August 10, to mark their third anniversary, a day-long Twitter campaign was organised. The same year, the group organised #BlackDayforTulunad Twitter campaign on Kannada Rajyotsava, and sent out more than 50,000 tweets.
