THANE: The district sessions court recently freed a man booked for armed robbery and assault in
Turbhe in 2000.
Additional sessions judge R R Vaishnav gave the benefit of the doubt to Jinaha aka J K Nainamohammad Laibi aka Ravi Anna (56), from Tutukodi in Tamil Nadu, after the prosecution and witness failed to identify him as one of the armed robbers who had attacked them and fled with a box of jewellery and cash collectively worth over Rs 3 lakh.
A truck carrying the jewellery had started from the workshop at Shiravane village in Navi Mumbai and was headed to Mumbai, to be sent to Germany on November 16, 2000. As it neared Turbhe bridge, the robbers, including Ravi Anna, waylaid the car and snatched the box. Police nabbed the four but Ravi Anna gave them the slip and fled. He was held in 2016.
