MANGALURU: Weekend fun turned tragic for a group of students from a private university in
Manipal, after the SUV they were travelling in crossed over a
median and rammed into a
truck coming from
Udupi.
One student was killed on the spot, and nine others were grievously injured, among whom four are battling for their life. The incident took place on Saturday evening at
Mukka on the outskirts of
Mangaluru.

Harsha, city police commissioner, who visited the spot, said the victim is Gloria, 24, a postgraduate student of the Architecture and Planning College in Manipal. He said that a total 10 students including two boys, had rented an SUV and had come to Mangaluru in the morning. The incident took place around 4.15pm, when they were returning to Manipal from Mangaluru. The person, who was driving the SUV, lost control, after which it crossed over the median and rammed into a truck coming from Udupi.
Harsha added that the injured are being treated at a private hospital, and that four of the victims are critical. A case has been registered at the Mangaluru North police station in this regard.
