RAJKOT: Asota village of Kalyanpur taluka of in Devbhoomi Dwarka district has turned into an island after rain over past couple of days. Rain water gushed into many houses and shops leaving people in waist-deep waters. Two persons drowned in separate incidents in Gondal and Wankaner talukas respectively.
“Due to heavy rain Asota village got inundated. Several vehicles and cattle were swept away in rain waters. However, no casualty was reported in the incident,” said D J Jadeja, Devbhoomi Dwarka district development officer.
Two incidents of drowning was reported from Biliyada village of Gondal taluka in Rajkot district and Rati Devdi village of Wankaner taluka in Morbi district on Thursday.
While the body of Bharat Thumar (50), who had drowned in a stream in Biliyada village, was fished out on Friday, body of a 17-year-old boy who got swept away in river near Rat Devdi village could not be traced.
In Saraswati River at Prachi Teerth of Sutrapada in Gir Somnath district, a 12-year-old girl was rescued after got swept away due to heavy current.

On Randhola state highway, waterlogging continued to create problems for the commuters where the administration had failed to drain out three-feet of rain water for the past 10 days.
Meanwhile, the youths of Jambur in Gir-Somnath district near the Git Wildlife Sanctuary turned the floods into a merry-making event when they brought a mini-bus on the bridge of Saraswati River and jumped into the gushing waters from the roof of the bus. The video of this event went viral on social media.
