ALWAR:
Rajasthan police have said
fugitive Vikram Singh, alias Papla, a native of Mahendragarh in Haryana, was in Alwar to eliminate the gang responsible for the murder of Jasram Gujjar, a BSP candidate from Behror constituency in the 2018 assembly polls.
Behror police said Vikram was carrying Rs 30 lakh in cash, which he had received as advance for the contract killing. Since he was unable to explain the source of the cash, the patrol team took him to police station. The cops posted at night were not aware of the fact that the man in their custody was the notorious Haryana
gangster.
On July 29, Gujjar, who also a history-sheeter, was sitting near a medical shop at Jainpur Bas Chopal with his friends when he was fired upon by five men who pumped six bullets into his back.
Police suspect Gujjar was killed by Haryana-based Vikram ‘Laden’ gang who often came to Behror to terrorise and extort local traders. Gujjar and Laden gang’s rivalry goes a long way back.
Highly placed sources said Gujjar’s henchmen, who are known locally as Mahakal Gang, had engaged Papla gang’s ‘services’ to target Laden’s men in a last-ditch effort to settle scores.
“Vikram may have been returning with the money for the contract killing before he was apprehended by police. We suspect that the raid was a joint operation of Papla and Mahakal gang,” an official said.
Jaipur Range IG S Sengathir confirmed that police were probing Vikram’s escape from police custody with the murder of Jasram Gujjar.
