THE GRAND HOTEL
★★★
8.40pm, Nine
Sitting somewhere between The Bold and the Beautiful and Melrose Place, with a touch of Upstairs, Downstairs is this glamourous melodrama set in a glistening Miami establishment. Hotel magnates and spoilt heiresses play power games while chambermaids and pool boys hustle. There’s star-crossed romance, unwanted advances, sordid hook-ups and a tantalising mystery in the form of a missing woman who has left a trail of clues in her wake.
BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS
★★★
8.30pm, Seven
As we inch closer to the grand final of Australia’s Got Talent, here’s a glimpse at the cream of the UK crop. The most impressive acts to break judge Simon Cowell’s permanent scowl over the past 13 years of the show’s history try to prove they’re not one-trick ponies in this battle for the Champions Trophy. Joining Cowell on the panel are regular judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and the multi-talented David Walliams.
UTOPIA
★★★
9pm, ABC
With their quaint hierarchies, secret languages of made-up jargon and meaningless phrases, beige carpets and air-conditioning, offices provide the perfect environment for particular personalities to grow like bacteria. This phenomenon is captured here most tellingly in the case of the minister, who in this instalment tries to slip a national ID card under the public’s radar. Siri plays a neat cameo in the Orwellian storyline.
