Two clerks among three held in arms racket, sent to prison

GORAKHPUR: Two arms clerks and a contractual employee, who were arrested on Thursday night in the fake arms licence case, were presented in a local court and sent to jail on Friday.
Earlier, seven persons had been arrested in the matter and six illegal guns were recovered.
“The arms register of district magistrate office was checked and cross-checked with the documents of Ravi Arms Corporation and irregularities were found. A SIT team found that former arms clerk Ashok Kumar Gupta, present arms clerk Ram Singh and computer operator (contractual employee) Ajay Kumar Giri, were involved in the crime,” said DM Vijyendra Pandiyan.
He added, “On the basis on evidences, they were arrested on Thursday night under 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 467(forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471(using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 474 (having possession of document described in section 467, knowing it to be forged and intending to use it as genuine), 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of IPC and sent to jail on Friday.”
“A laptop was recovered from the possession of computer operator Ajay Kumar Giri and after forensic test of the laptop and hard disk, it was found that ALIS app was loaded with which through fake ID was made. ANY DESK SOFTWARE was also loaded and fake arms licence and arms licence renewal was made. Fake unique ID was also formed,” the DM told TOI on Friday.
“The two clerks and a contractual employee will also be charged under the provisions of National Security Act (NSA) and their property will be attached. The SIT is investigating the case and many other people involved in the case will be arrested soon,” the DM added.
“The racket was being run for the past few years and fake licences were being issued on which arms were sold. SIT was constituted and a case under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120 B of IPC was filed against Tanvir Khan, Vikas Tiwari, Shivam Mishra and Ravi Arms Corporation manager Ravi Tiwari on August 14 on the complaint of arms clerk Ram Singh,” said SSP Sunil Gupta.

“The next day, one Tanvir Khan of Gorakhnath area was arrested and sent to jail and 32 bore pistol which was purchased from Ravi Arms Corporation in Gorakhpur on fake licence was recovered. During investigation, on August 23, property dealer Vijay Pratap of Shahpur area was arrested under Arms Act and one tampered rifle, one tampered pistol and a fake licence was recovered,” the SSP said.
“On August 26, mastermind Gopi aka Shamsher and Vikas Tiwari was sent to jail under Arms Act. Similarly, motel manager Pranay Pratap and property dealer Shamsher were sent to jail under Arms Act on August 28. On August 29, manager of Ravi Arms Corporation Ravi Tiwari was sent to jail,” the SSP added.
