AHMEDABAD: The owner of a CG Road jewellery shop on Wednesday registered a complaint with Navrangpura police, stating that a
jewellery artisan had decamped with gold ingots weighing about 1.51kg,
worth Rs 55 lakh. Dinesh Soni, 42, a resident of Naranpura, stated that the accused, Sanju Govinda Pal, a resident of Khamasa originally from Murshidabad in West Bengal, had worked for him for abound a year.
Pal used to work at Soni's shop along with seven other workers, where they made jewellery from gold ingots. On July 14, Soni gave Pal gold ingots weighing 3.27kg.
"From that, Pal made 1.76 kg of jewellery and deposited it with Soni on August 1, for which Soni paid Pal Rs 4.04 lakh on August 26," the FIR states. Soni had told Pal to delivery jewellery from the remaining gold on September 2. "As Pal did come to Soni's shop on the agreed day, Soni grew suspicion and sent a staffer to Pal's place in Khamasa, which was found to be locked," states the FIR.
Pal has been incommunicado since September 2 and has presumedly decamped with the 1.51kg of gold.
