All Surat industries to use treated water in two years

It will save 500MLD of river water for the residents
SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will set up plants for supply of secondary treated water to Hazira and Palsana industries at a cost of Rs550 crore and Rs150 crore, respectively. While it will supply of 313 million litres per day (MLD) to Hazira industries, Palsana will get 215 MLD.
Later, 30 MLD will also be supplied to a dye-manufacturing company, Colour Tex industries. However, it will be another two years before the treated water is best utilized by all the industrial centres.
Industries in Pandesara are already getting 40 MLD of secondary treated water.
Under the state government's treated water supply policy formed on May 28, 2018, a state-level technical committee (SLTC) was formed to look in the proposals for supply of treated water. This committee has approved all the three proposals and based on its detailed project reports (DPR) will decide on how it will be carried out. "At present these proposals are with state high-power committee (SHPC) and once they approve it, the final estimates will be made and deals worked out," said an executive engineer from SMC, adding that when this starts functioning, it will save 500MLD of river water for the residents.

As far as the deal with Hazira industries is concerned, officials said that the project is huge as after 313MLD secondary treated water, 187 MLD of tertiary treated water plan has also been chalked out.
"As this a high-value project, issue of financing the project is paramount. The industrial units that want water together with the SMC are in process of working out the financial model for the implementation of the project," said EAH Pathan, executive engineer, SMC.
