Welfare assistance such as wheelchairs to differently abled people were disbursed to beneficiaries at the mass contact programme held at Sathumadurai village in Vellore district on Thursday.
As many as 161 beneficiaries received welfare assistance to the tune of ₹59.06 lakh, provided under different departments of the State government. The mass contact programme, conducted after a nearly three-month break was presided over by Collector A. Shanmuga Sundram. Arcot MLA, J.L. Eswarappan and other officials from various departments participated.
While addressing participants, Mr. Sundram urged them to be aware about government schemes and make use of them for the benefit of their families and the community.
He said people should not be ignorant to the government’s welfare measures in their locality. Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, the Pachaiyamman temple tank in Sathumadurai village was being spruced up and people should participate actively in ensuring its quality, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector stated that welfare schemes were conceived to redress grievances of people and that it was the government’s duty to ensure their benefits reach the public.
The welfare disbursements included orders for free house pattas for ten persons, assistance for 11 widowed destitute women under the social security scheme and grant of assistance for three persons under the differently abled assistance scheme.
The Collector also distributed hand-sprayers under the 50% subsidy assistance and seed-sprayers under agricultural assistance.
Group houses were handed over to the Adi Dravidar community and greenhouses to four persons under the Rural Development Department Scheme.
