After their hugely popular mascot Pappu Zebra taught the public lessons on road safety, the Kerala Police have now taken the help of ‘Professor Pointer’ to fight cybercrime.
Professor Pointer, fashioned out of a computer mouse and cursor, is primarily aimed at warning students of the dangers of cyberspace. Through students, the police aim to get the message across to grown-ups as well.
The campaign will use animation films, picture stories, and posters to reach out to students and parents. Cine actor Mammootty presented Professor Pointer through his official Facebook page on Thursday, Teachers’ Day. It has been released on the Facebook page of the Kerala Police too. The campaign will be carried out under the aegis of the Kerala Police Cyberdome.
Professor Pointer is the brainchild of Artist Nandan Pillai, who created Pappu Zebra too. The name was suggested by Additional Director General of Police Manoj Abraham, the nodal officer of CyberDome.
“We plan to spread the campaign mainly through the Student Police Cadets and School Protection Groups. It is designed in a way that each one can teach at least five. SPC volunteers who have been given tablets will use them to educate fellow students. Professor Pointer will make use of social media too,” said Mr. Abraham.
