India-US joint military exercise begins in Washington

On Friday, a joint military exercise between India and the United States of America began in Washington as part of the ongoing defence co-operation between the two countries. The military exercise is being conducted at the Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington.

The joint military exercise which is also known as names as Yudh Abhyas is one of the largest joint-running military training and defence co-operation endeavours between the two nations and will end on September 18. According to officials, armies from India and US will together train, plan and execute a series of well-developed operations for neutralization of threats of varied nature during the military exercise.

At the end of the military exercise, both countries will undertake a joint exercise under operational setting under the United Nations mandate. Sources also said that experts from both sides will hold academic and military discussions to share each other's experiences on varied topics for mutual benefit.

The military exercise will provide an opportunity to the armed forces of both countries in order to train in an integrated manner at the Battalion level, with joint planning at Brigade level. In the exercise, armies of both countries will rehearse multiple scenarios to understand each other's organisation structure.

The military exercise which is in its 15th edition is conducted alternately every year in India and the US.
