Higher education partnerships and encouraging Indian students to study in the United States are top priorities for the U.S. Mission in India, said Consul General of US Consulate in Hyderabad Joel Reifman.

Inaugurating the University Fair organised by the U.S. India Education Foundation (USIEF) and Education USA in the city on Thursday, he said nearly two lakh Indian students are currently pursuing their studies in universities across America and many of those are from this region.

He said representatives from 48 U.S. universities have travelled to India to provide students here with comprehensive information about a wide range of programmes, admissions criteria, application process, and other useful information.

“These 48 universities are a substantial and diverse group; clearly India is a priority for our higher education institutions.” The fair was attended by hundreds of students and parents to learn more about the many educational options available in the United States.

The participating universities in the fair offer a range of academic majors at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students, parents, and counsellors interacted directly with the representatives of participating institutions to get first hand information.

Parallel panel discussions and sessions were also held at the fair to help students understand the U.S. higher education admission and application process in detail and navigate the U.S. student visa process.

India is the second largest country of origin of international students in USA with around 18% of international students in the country being from India. Some of the institutions part of the fair included Arizona State University, Iowa State University, North Eastern University.
