Confirming earlier rumors and reports about the all-new and all-important, eighth generation Golf skipping the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show next week, Volkswagen has told CarScoops that it won’t be bringing the hatch to Germany’s largest motoring event.

“The new Golf will not be presented at the IAA, there will be another event soon”, a Volkswagen spokesperson told us. It seems that the Germans want to put the focus on the equally important, ID.3 electric hatch that will be revealed in production guise in Frankfurt.

Should they want to meet the deadline and deliver the first units of the Golf Mk8 by the end of the year, then that event will probably be hosted shortly after Frankfurt. CarScoops understands that the 2020 Golf reveal will likely happen in October.

The eighth-generation Golf has been out and about for months now, appearing not only in a multitude of spy shots in camouflage, but also revealing its evolutionary design while filming for a commercial. The biggest changes compared to the outgoing model are at the two ends, with restyled lighting units, bumpers, hood and grille.

For the interior, Volkswagen has chosen a more minimalist approach that brings a two-layer dashboard with less physical buttons, as well as reshaped and relocated air vents and a new center console. The infotainment system and digital instrument cluster will likely become standard features in, if not all, most grades.

The engine lineup will consist of the usual gasoline, diesel and CNG units, as well as 48V mild-hybrids. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected, with an electric range of up to 80 km (50 miles), whereas at the top of the range will be the GTI and R hot hatches.
