KURUKSHETRA: With the digitisation, the number of cyber crimes has gone up, said Prof Sudesh, the director of Women's Studies Research Centre (WSRC) of
Kurukshetra University in
Haryana.
Prof Sudesh, who was speaking at a one-day workshop on cyber safety and consumer awareness on Friday, said, "Every year on various social media platforms, millions of youths, especially women, are falling victim to cyber bullying."
The workshop--organized in collaboration with the Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF), Delhi and OLX--was held to make youths aware about internet crimes and how to use the internet safely.
Prof Sudesh further said, "People are also facing loss of hard-earned money due to cyber fraud. We are becoming victims of these crimes because we are not aware of the safe use of the internet and are easily caught in the trap laid by criminals in the social media or mail."
Trainers from the CPF--Akanksha Kapoor and Kamakshi Sharma--briefed the participants on creating a secure digital space, financial cyber security, smart surfing and smartphones, reporting incidents and crime and cyber peace programmes during technical sessions.
“Users can avoid fraud transactions of money from banks through scams and can keep their money safe from hackers in the bank. Smart surfing and its sufficient information not only protect us from many types of online threats, but also protects our rights, reputation and honor on the internet,” said CPF trainers.
Around 250 students from different departments participated.
