ABOHAR: The youth, who was allegedly beaten up by some villagers after being tied to a tree in a village under Abohar subdivision of Fazilka district on September 3, was booked on Thursday for molesting a minor girl.
Acting on the complaint filed by the minor, who is married, a case under sections 451 (house trespass in order to commit offence) and 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the IPC, Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Ppcso) Act and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act had been registered against the accused.
The complainant alleged that the youth tried to molest her on the night of September 3, but was nabbed by her family members, who rushed in after hearing her cries. Following that he was allegedly assaulted by them after being tied to a tree.
The accused was rescued by the police and later admitted to Abohar civil hospital for treatment. Earlier, on his statement, a case of wrongful confinement, assault, rioting and unlawful assembly was registered against eight persons.
On Thursday, Abohar superintendent of police (SP) Gurmeet Singh, along with Abohar Sadar station house officer (SHO) Ranjit Singh visited the village to have on-thespot report of the incident.
They recorded the statements of some villagers. “We have registered cases according to the complaints of both parties,” the SP said, adding that justice would prevail once the investigations into the case were completed.

Meanwhile, on learning about the registration of a police case against him, the youth, who was undergoing treatment till Thursday morning, disappeared from the hospital.
