  • The tackle occurred on Thursday night during a Rabbitohs and Roosters game
  • Rabbitohs forward Liam night was taken down 40 metres from the try line
  • As knight fell to the ground, Roosters Jared Warea-Hargreaves came over the top
  • The tackle caught Knight high and smashed his head into a Roosters player

Two rugby league players have suffered gruesome injuries after a brutal tackle during a physical NRL clash.

Liam Knight and Lindsay Collins were injured after the tackle by Jared Warea-Hargreaves during the game between the Sydney Roosters and the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

The Roosters' Warea-Hargreaves went in to tackle rival Knight as the Rabbitohs player slipped.

Warea-Hargreaves' forearm connected with Knight's head, forcing a nasty head clash with another Roosters player Lindsay Collins.

Both Knight and Collins were forced to leave the field as they were left bleeding from their heads.

With six minutes left in the game on Thursday night, Rabbitohs forward Liam Knight was passed the ball 40 metres from the try line and was taken down by Roosters player, Lindsay Collins

During The Late Show with Matty Johns, Johns said Warea-Hargreaves may be punished by the judiciary for the tackle.

Warea-Hargreaves was placed on report after the hit.

'There's a lot of things to consider here which will come out in the judiciary if he has a case to answer which I think he will have. The bottom line is that's a sickening hit,' Johns said.

NRL legend Gorden Tallis said the tackle was not a good look for Warea-Hargreaves.

'He's hit him in the head, his target could have went a bit lower. I know he's fallen but it's your responsibility not to strike another player in the head,' Tallis said.

Sympathy poured in for Knight with many fans hoping he was okay while others called for Warea-Hargreaves to be suspended.

One person said: 'That's why you're not supposed to tackle guys high - anything can happen.'

'Have a look at the state of Liam Knight. And we've got all these idiots saying accidental. I hope he gets two weeks.'

As Knight was brought to the ground, the Roosters Jared Warea-Hargreaves came in over the top and collided with both players. The collision caught Knight high and smashed his head into Collins which left both men bleeding from their heads

Another argued: 'Jared Warea-Hargreaves should get suspended for that tackle on Liam Knight. That was pretty bad.'

'I hope Liam Knight is okay,' another said.

The Rabbitohs defeated the Sydney Roosters 16 - 10, which has resulted in them finishing in the top four.

The defeat has the Roosters' seven-game winning streak.
