It is called Bae’s Cappuccino (Bae being an acronym for Before Anyone Else). It is a tree house, Everything from floor to furniture is made of wood, there are two trees growing right through it and the roof is made of dried hay and leaves. The owners of the cafe, Bharat Kumar and Y Vinod say they were inspired by the shacks in Goa and enlisted the help of farmers from nearby villages who knew how to put up the ‘hut’ and make it look authentically rustic. That is about the ambience. It ticks all the boxes
Coming to food, the first thing you see on entering the air conditioned section is the cakes and pastries counter all bathed in the warm yellow lighting. It is difficult to ignore the two trees right there and Bharat explains, “We didn’t want to bring down the trees to build the café. Instead we used them as pillar support.”
Bharat and Vinod have poured a lot of love into their café. They both quit corporate jobs in order to do so. Right from furniture to the salt and pepper cellars (each table has a unique pair and the ones on mine are shaped like owls). “Once we finalised the design of the furniture, we gave the contract to carpenters in the city,” says Bharat as I order a Caramel Macchiato that has a generous helping of caramel. I am told they use Lavazza coffee beans but soon plan to start using Araku coffee too.

But naturally, the café is a popular hangout romancing couples. For those who have tired of gazing into each others eyes, they can play scrabble, Uno or Luddo. They can also read the books kept there. A majority of our clients are below the age of 30,” smiles Bharat.
The menu has a lot going on — appetizers, burgers, pizza, quesadilla, pasta, lasagne, soups, sandwiches and desserts. As for beverages, they have a separate menu which has smoothies, mocktails, coffee and tea.
I try the bruschetta and chicken quesadilla. The grilled bread is served with a topping of .capsicum (green, yellow and red) and olives. While they tasted faithfully Italian, the quesadillas tasted more Indian than Mexican with the filling reminiscent of mixed vegetables at a desi restaurant.
The pan-size pizza and sandwiches are ideal for one, assuming you haven’t had a cup of coffee. I order the Best of Both Worlds pizza , which offers you two different toppings. gives the option to pick two different toppings. I got roasted broccoli on one half and chicken on the other. Those who like seafood can try the pizza gamberoni with prawn topping. The thin crust pizzas are loaded with cheese and they definitely taste better than what the the pizza delivery guy brings you.
According to Bharat, the three-slice Bae’s Club Sandwich is a hot favourite. It is served with French fries and mayonnaise. I took his word for it and left the tree house, but not before digging intoThe Royal Crunch, a pastry made with Belgium chocolate and layers of praline.
