Richard Hammond Uses A Ranger Raptor To Show His Daughters He’s A Cool Dad

Richard Hammond’s mid-life crisis appears to be worsening and, once again, he has found himself behind the wheel of a Ford Ranger Raptor, a vehicle not particularly well-suited to UK’s narrow backroads.

This is the second video sponsored by Ford and published on the Drive Tribe YouTube channel to feature Hammond and the Ranger Raptor. It is a far cry from an objective review on the pickup, yet still worth watching.

This time around, The Grand Tour host proclaims that the Ranger Raptor is a “brilliant family car” and, eager to prove it, he recruits his two teenage daughters and embarks on a trip to the local shops.

Ford developed the Ranger Raptor with technology from off-road racing trucks, but it is still quite well suited to everyday use. After boring his teenage daughters to death trying to be a ‘cool dad’, Hammond decides to go for a bit of an off-road adventure and puts the pickup to the test on some muddy and slippery terrain.

The Ranger Raptor is powered by a 2.0-liter, twin-turbocharged diesel with 210 HP and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. It is underpinned by a ladder frame and sports bespoke aluminum control arms, new front shock towers, and coils, as well as a Watt’s linkage at the rear, as opposed to leaf springs, and has an impressive 283 mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of 850 mm, so there’s no doubting its off-roading credentials.
