Dakshina Kannada DC S Sasikanth Senthil resigns

S Sasikanth Senthil
MANGALURU: In a shocking development, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil tendered resignation from the Indian Administrative Service on Friday.
In a letter addressed to all, he stated that his decision was a personal one and was in no way connected to anyone or any event in his current profile as deputy commissioner of DK District.
But, his further statement left many of his admirers confused. His statement read: "I have taken this decision as I feel unethical for me to continue as a civil servant in the government when the fundamental building blocks of our diverse democracy are being compromised in an unprecedented manner. I also feel strongly that the coming days will present extremely difficult challenges to the basic fabric of our nation that I would be better off outside the IAS to continue with my work at making life better for all. It cannot be business as usual anymore."
Expressing gratitude for all those who had worked with him in various capacities, he apologised to the people and people’s representatives for discontinuing the work vested on him midway.
Sources said that the DC was on leave since a week and he had asked Zilla Panchayat CEO Selvamani to be the in-charge. Everyone associated with DC expressed shock at this development. Even the DC’s personal assistant was oblivious to this development till 11am.
Senthil, a 2009 batch IAS officer, was a Tamil Nadu topper in the UPSC exams and had bagged the ninth spot at all-India level. Hailing from Chennai, Senthil did his B.E. (Electronics) from the Regional Engineering College of Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli and later joined Polaris. But such was his desire to pursue IAS that he quit his job and succeeded in his mission.
Senthil also served as assistant commissioner in Bellary, chief executive officer of Shivamogga zilla panchayat and deputy commissioner of Chitradurga and Raichur districts. He was previously posted as the mines and geology department director before being posted as DC of Dakshina Kannada.

This is another incident that has been received with disbelief like K Annamalai’s resignation. He was a highly popular IPS officer of Karnataka cadre who announced his resignation in May this year. He was deputy commissioner of police (Bengaluru South). Annamalai is an engineering graduate from Coimbatore and holds a management degree from IIM-Lucknow. The 2011-batch officer had said that it took him six months to decide on his resignation.
Senthil could not be contacted over phone.
