CHENNAI: An
attempt to kidnap a 16-year-old boy fell flat after the
car involved in the crime met with an accident in Villivakkam.
Police said the incident happened on Tuesday night when the teenager from Villivakkam took his father's car out to meet his friends near a private school on the CTH Road. The boy was speaking to his friends when two men claiming to be police officers approached them.
The men demanded to know who drove the car and asked for the driving licence. The teens got scared and fled the spot but the boy had no other option but to tell the men that it was his father's car and that he was driving it without a licence.
The men then asked the boy to get in the car and drove off to Anna Nagar. However, after the car hit another vehicle near Tirumangalam a police patrol stopped the vehicle and took the three occupants to the Villivakkam police station.
Meanwhile, the boy managed to inform his father about the incident. His father rushed to the police station. Police found out that the duo were not policemen but history-sheeters with murder charges pending against them.
They have been identified as Ebenezar, 24, and Karthik alias Dinesh, 20, of Tirumangalam.
"The men asked the boy for money but since he did not give them any they beat him and took him in the vehicle to make him buy liquor for them," said police. The duo were remanded in judicial custody.
The father of the boy has been booked for letting the minor drive his car.
