Uttam seeks apology from Agriculture Minister

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Utam Kumar Reddy has derided the reported remarks of Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy equating the death of a farmer in a queue to procure urea with those standing in line for a film ticket.

In a statement here, he called the Minister’s reported statement as obnoxious and said it reflected how callous the government was on the urea shortage. He said a farmer Yellaiah passed away while standing in a queue for the fertilisers in Dubbak but the Minister instead of understanding the gravity of the situation was mocking the death of the farmer.

Is it the policy of the TRS government to mock even the deaths of the farmers? he asked and said government has to take responsibility for the farmer’s death and provide compensation to his family. He said the Minister should apologise to all the farmers and ensure that the fertilizers were available in sufficient quantities.

Mr. Reddy said the government has ignored the release of Rythu Bandhu funds though the cultivation season is midway through. Similarly, the loan waiver election promise is also being buried, he added.
