Gujarat University police on Thursday nabbed two men for allegedly withdrawing money using cloned ATM cards. Police seized 381
ATM cards, Rs 1 lakh cash and other articles worth Rs 68,000 from the duo. They were trying to withdraw money using a cloned ATM card from near PRL, when the cops nabbed them.
The accused were identified as Kamalnathan Sinaiya, 32, a resident of Bengaluru originally from Trichy in Tamil Nadu and Rajkumar Nayi, 25, a resident of Bengaluru originally from Bikaner in Rajasthan. The duo allegedly worked for an Indonesia-based man whose first name is Pathirpan, who is also wanted in the case registered at
Gujarat University police station.
A team led by PSI Ajay Kale received intelligence that two persons were trying to fraudulently withdraw money from the ATM. Police cordoned off the ATM and nabbed them. When their bags were searched, police found 22 cloned cards and Rs 63,210.
When police asked them where they got the cards from, they could not provide satisfactory answers. Police then questioned them about their accommodation and found that they had been staying at a hotel in Panjrapol since August 30.
Police then went to their hotel and found 359 more ATM cards from their room and Rs 40,000 cash, along with a laptop and an encoder for cloning ATM cards.
Gujarat University police registered a case of cheating and forgery along with other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and began an investigation.
