PUNE: The irrigation department on Thursday reduced water release from Khadakwasla and other dams, but a flood alert for the areas along the river and low-lying localities would continue for the next few days.
Officials said the alert was not withdrawn because the rainfall in the catchment has not completely stopped.

Water release from the Khadakwasla dam was brought down to 13,981 cusecs on Thursday from Wednesday’s highest release at the rate of 31,449 cusecs. The discharge from Pavana and Mulshi was also reduced below 10,000 cusecs.
Water stock in Panshet, Varasgaon, Khadakwasla, Pavana, Mulshi, Neera Devghar and Bhor Bhatghar was maintained at100%.

“We have reduced the discharge considering the inflow of rainwater into the reservoirs. The discharge from Temghar into the river was completely stopped. But Panshet and Varasgaon continued to release water throughout the day. Varasgaon and Panshet released water at the rate of 4,440 cusecs and 5,532 cusecs, respectively,” officials said.
The irrigation department increased the release of water from the Ujani dam and the discharge was maintained at the rate of 40,000 cusecs. The reservoir received a huge inflow of water, which was released from the dam in the upstream regions of Pune district. The irrigation department said Ujani’s water level has reached its full capacity.
