Teachers’ Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm across schools and colleges in the city on Thursday. Students organised entertainment programmes on their campuses in celebration of the day. At Ponmudiyar Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School, students wished teachers and distributed sweets to them.

At The American College, a special lecture was organised for teachers. Madurai MP. Su. Venkatesan, who was the chief guest, delivered a special address in which he elaborated on the contribution of teachers and student community in promoting the city’s antiquity.

Principal and Secretary M. Davamani Christober welcomed the gathering and a book on learning through memes, written by Professor Pandikumar was released at the event.

Students wrote and recited poems in praise of their teachers at the Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School in K. Pudur. The celebration was jointly organised by the school and Lions Club of Madurai Green City, headed by correspondent Mohammed Idris and presided over by Head Master Sheik Nabi. Durai Vijaya Pandian, coordinator of Philatelist and Numismatist Association, delivered a special address and congratulated teachers for choosing to be in the profession. The children took an oath against usage of plastic, to plant trees and protect the environment.
