Programme aiming to rag freshers cancelled by DAVV V-C

INDORE: Adopting zero tolerance approach towards ragging on the campus, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) vice-chancellor Dr Renu Jain rejected some programmes from a college fest on Tuesday.
‘Tourista,’ the ‘unofficial’ fest of International Institute of Professional Studies (IIPS) got approval, but on conditional basis.
As per directions of VC, the fest will now be conducted in an academic and cultural way under supervision of dean of student welfare (DSW), and the department faculty.
Jain rejected themes like mismatch innovative get up, cartoon characters from 90s etc considering it a way to rag freshers.
She is also planning to keep a check on the fest preparations that has now taken shape of a collaborative student faculty event.
The female students of first year have been prohibited to take part in any event outside the varsity campus and it will be the responsibility of students if they attend any programme.
“I cannot permit anything that sounds even minutely like ragging to me. The students have to ensure that the fest is an academic programme. Moreover, the date, venue and time will also be decided by the faculty only,” Jain told TOI.
