  • Although it was a joke, it sparked women to ask their partners if they knew
  • Men responded with hilarious labels like 'red', 'rough' and 'ripe'
  • Most men had no clue what the 'R', 'L' or 'S' could stand for on the package

Men have been mercilessly mocked by their significant others online after they were asked to explain what the letters on the tampon wrappers stood for— with most having no clue what they could possibly mean.

A trend of women asking their partners what the letters on tampons meant first started after one boyfriend jokingly asked people online where he could find a 'left' tampon.

'My girlfriend left a tampon at my apartment and idk where the left one is. Anyone know where I can get a single left tampon to keep a set here for emergencies?' Evan Worthen joked online while holding up a tampon with an 'R' on the label.

His tweet, despite it being a joke, sparked other women to ask their significant others if they knew what the letters actually meant.

One woman shared a picture of a regular tampon to her 'hunny' and asked him to say what the 'R' meant.

'Right vagina. Duh,' the man wrote, adding: 'And there's ones with L. That's left vagina.'

Other funny responses women received included 'ripe', 'red', 'ready', and 'release' for the moment when women 'pull the string' to remove the item.

Comments kept pouring in with more women sharing the conversations they had with their significant others over the labels.

Most men had no clue what the 'R', 'L' or 'S' could possible stand for on the package.

'Really big,' one man wrote, adding: 'Religion is necessary for periods. One of those [two].'

Another man joked to his significant other about what he thought the 'L' meant, writing: 'Love. Lavender. Lollipop. Large. Gluten free.'

One woman's partner confessed to having no idea what the 'R' could possible mean on the tampon label. His guess was 'registered trademark'.

'My husband said "recycle,"' one wife detailed online. 'I said omg recycle a tampon?! To which he replied "well I mean you would have to wash it out..." When I explained that you cant he said "OK well maybe you can't reuse them, but you could probably make them into, like, a bench." and then I died.'

Not quite: Other men thought the labels could mean 'ready' or 'ridiculously bleeding'

Significant others came up with the most bizarre possibilities for the letter meaning, and most of them greatly missed the mark.

'Mine said "regulate: and then said "oh it means reverse..reverse that thang up out of there,"' one woman hilariously wrote.

Other funny words included 'rough', 'relief', and 'ridiculous bleeding' — all of which were not the correct answer.

Then there was one woman who was left disappointed after her partner correctly answered that the 'R' on a tampon label meant 'regular'.

'Well that wasn't as entertaining as I thought it'd be,' the woman wrote.
