Revenue officials on Thursday removed encroachments in Vettukulam tank at Kulanthiranpatti near Karambakudi town.
The operation comes after social activist and writer Durai Guna pasted posters at various places in the district calling for appointment to “vacant posts” of Collector and other officials irked over alleged official inaction on his plea for removal of encroachments from the tank. He was soon arrested by Karambakudi Police.
Police sources said a team headed by the Revenue Divisional Officer cleared seven-and-a-half acres during a day-long operation. Earthmovers were used to remove the paddy crops and coconut trees.
Durai Guna’s contention was that some persons had encroached upon the tank and demanded that they be removed.
